Subsea motor delivery

Hayward Tyler, the Luton-based pump and motor manufacturer, has successfully delivered three 2,500kW subsea motors for Norwegian surface and subsea solutions company Aker Kvaerner Subsea.

The motors are among the largest subsea models ever built and will drive Aker’s seawater injection pumps on the Statoilhydro Tyrihans project in the Norwegian Sea.

Operating with a 31.4km step out from the Kirsten platform, the Hayward Tyler motors will combine with Aker’s injection pumps to inject raw seawater for pressure support and stabilisation of the oil zone.

The motors can run at speeds of 2,500 to 4,000rpm and include increased insulation (11kV) to accommodate the higher electrical charges produced.

The announcement of Hayward Tyler’s record-breaking design has generated interest in the market and the company is currently negotiating further supply agreements.
