ABB to supply transformers for Scottish wind farm

Power and automation technology company ABB has been awarded a turnkey contract by Scottish electricity distributor SP Energy Networks to supply three high-voltage transformers that will provide a new grid connection for the extension of Whitelee Windfarm in Scotland.

The 275kV transformers will be supplied by ABB’s factory in Lodz, Poland.

SP Energy Networks is to construct a grid connection substation at Whitelee, where the ABB 275/33kV 120MVA transformers will be installed.

In addition to the three grid transformers, the company is also supplying associated 33kV earthing transformers.

In a separate contract, ABB is supplying SP Energy Networks with various pieces of high-voltage equipment for the new substation, including circuit breakers, surge arrestors, current transformers and capacitive voltage transformers.
