SMMT reveals drop in output from vehicle manufacturers

Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reveal a fall in output from Britain’s automotive manufacturers in September.

Car output fell 5.8 per cent in September but remains up 10.2 per cent over the year to date.

Commercial vehicle output fell 20.2 per cent in the month, accelerating the 7.5 per cent decline seen over the year so far.

Finally, UK engine production dropped 12.8 per cent in September, with January–September levels down 0.4 per cent.
