The government’s Technology Strategy Board (TSB) is to invest up to £1.25m to stimulate innovation that will help to improve the resource efficiency of UK companies and help contribute towards a low-carbon economy.
The TSB will run a funding competition and offer grant funding for feasibility studies into the redesign of products, components and systems to retain material within the economy over several cycles of use.
The competition is hoped to stimulate innovation in design to address two high-level challenges: reducing the global environmental impact of materials that we use; and reducing independence on key raw materials.
The competition is open to all UK companies or collaborations and will be in two rounds. The first opens on 29 October 2013 and applications must be received by 12 December 2012; the second round opens on 11 February 2013 and applications must be submitted by 27 March 2013.
