UK government announces Energy Storage R&D Centre

In a move to further support the automotive industry, the UK government has announced the creation of an Energy Storage R&D Centre for the advancement of electric and hybrid vehicle batteries.

The £13m centre will be co-funded by the government (£9m) and industry (£4m) and will capitalise on the growing electric and hybrid vehicle battery market.

This market has been estimated to be worth £250m for the UK by 2020.
