IAE awarded $50 million engine contract

China’s flag carrier Air China has recently selected International Aero Engines to supply V2500 turbofan engines for its growing fleet of Airbus A320 family aircraft.

The V2500-A5 engines will power four additional A319 single aisle aircraft to be delivered between June 2005 and July 2006. The value of this new order is worth more than $50 million to IAE.

Air China, a new IAE customer, selected V2500 engines as the powerplant for its eight A319s in November 2002. Including the newly ordered aircraft, all 12 A319s will be operated by Air China Zhejiang Subsidiary, which has already taken delivery of three aircraft this year.

Bob Watson, IAE’s Regional Vice President Asia-Pacific, said: ‘The V2500 is the most advanced engine in its thrust class and it is our mission to ensure highest levels of reliability, quiet performance and comprehensive customer support solutions.’

IAE’s business in China has been steadily expanding since it first entered the country in 1995. IAE’s Chinese customers operate an in-service fleet of 103 V2500 powered aircraft, including 68 Airbus A320 family aircraft.
