Presstek files patent suit

Presstek, Inc has filed a patent infringement suit against Fuji Photo Film Co, Ltd of Japan for alleged violation of Presstek’s patents relating to lithographic printing plates.

Presstek, Inc, a provider of direct digital imaging technology, has filed a patent infringement suit against Fuji Photo Film Co, Ltd of Japan for alleged violation of Presstek’s patents relating to lithographic printing plates. The suit was filed in Germany.

‘Presstek encourages the licensing of its intellectual property and products as demonstrated by its many OEM agreements. Equally, we welcome original and creative competition in the marketplace,’ said Edward J. Marino Presstek’s president and chief executive officer.

‘We have, however, invested heavily in the development of a substantial portfolio of intellectual property and high quality products and believe that it is our responsibility to our OEM partners, end-user customers, employees, and investors to protect this investment,’ added Marino.

Fuji is manufacturing the infringing product, the Caleidoplate, for Heidelberg. Heidelberg manufactures sheet-fed, digital and web press systems as well as prepress and postpress components, software and consumables for printing applications.

The initiation of this action is not expected to effect Presstek’s recently announced OEM agreement, or its relationship, with Heidelberg.
