Plastic exit

UK-based Betts is to cease manufacturing specialty plastics injection mouldings in the UK and concentrate solely on its core laminate tubes business and on the injection moulding of related tube components.

UK-based Betts, part of the part of the global Betts Group of specialist packaging companies, is to cease manufacturing specialty plastics injection mouldings in the UK and concentrate solely on its core laminate tubes business and on the injection moulding of related tube components.

In a recent deal the company inked with Clinton, MA-based Nypro, making that company its ‘strategic manufacturing and development partner’, Betts’ specialty injection moulding business will be transferred from its manufacturing site in Colchester to Nypro owned manufacturing facilities by September 2005.

Around 200 people at Betts’ Colchester manufacturing facility will be affected as a result of the move which will take place between March and September 2005.

“This move will allow Betts to concentrate on its core business activities and to grow its laminate tube business in new market sectors in Europe, in particular personal care,” says Rosemary Mason, Managing Director of Betts UK.

Nypro, with 11,000 employees and worldwide sales over $800 million, currently has a facility in the UK at Wrexham that manufactures precision moulded plastic components.
