Harsco on track for Network Rail

Network Rail has awarded contracts valued at around £17m annually to Harsco Track Technologies for railgrinding and stoneblowing.

The contracts are for the operation and maintenance of five switch and crossing railgrinders, and the maintenance of Network Rail’s fleet of 18 plainline stoneblowers. Network Rail claimed the deal could deliver cost savings in excess of 10 per cent in the first year

Network Rail uses railgrinders and stoneblowers as part of its asset stewardship strategy to deliver good rail profile and alignment of the track to help make rail journeys smoother and more reliable.

The contracts run for two and a half years.
