Emerson gets embedded

St. Louis-based Emerson is to acquire Motorola’s Embedded Communications Computing (ECC) business for $350m in cash.

The business, which had 2006 revenue of approximately $520m, will strengthen Emerson’s position in the $6bn merchant embedded computing industry.

Motorola’s ECC business is a provider of embedded computing products and services to manufacturers of telecommunications, medical imaging, defence and aerospace and industrial automation equipment. Based in Tempe, Arizona, it has approximately 1,100 employees.

The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of the calendar year and is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Once it is,  the Motorola business will become part of Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson.
