Kostal UK has won grants worth £255,000 from Yorkshire Forward to develop new products for the automotive industry and safeguard jobs
Kostal UK has won grants worth £255,000 from RDA Yorkshire Forward to develop new products for the automotive industry and safeguard jobs at its Goldthorpe plant situated outside Rotherham.
The grant will support the company in developing and producing new electromechanical components for cars. These will include dashboard switches for Range Rovers, electric window switches for Volvos and a driver’s console for Jaguars which controls various functions including the gearshift and brakes.
Kostal UK has been operating in Goldthorpe since 1990, manufacturing components to control electric windows, electric seats and many other functions within car dashboards.
Kostal’s Yorkshire location means it can compete with overseas companies to manage supplies to Ford, Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover and BMW as well as a range of first tier suppliers including Siemens VDO, Johnson Controls and Intier.
Kostal UK is expected to invest over £4m in equipment and machinery that will improve the company’s competitiveness. The grant provided by Yorkshire Forward is linked to the company’s own investment in the site, and will be paid over the next two years.
