Jaguar Land Rover and Chery begin work on China car plant

Jaguar Land Rover and Chery Automobile Company have laid the foundation stone for their new car manufacturing facility in China after receiving formal approval for the joint venture from the Chinese government.

The companies will now accelerate plans to build the plant in Changshu, near Shanghai, as part of a ¥10.9bn (£1bn) investment that will also include a new research and development centre and engine production facility.

The project includes the creation of a new partnership brand to assemble models tailored specifically for the Chinese market, including marketing and distribution.
