Jaguar Land Rover (
JLR) has announced that it will be offering Advanced Apprenticeships to 40 young people aged 16 and over who want to begin a career in the automotive industry.
The apprenticeships will last a period of 36-48 months, with the initial phase taking place at college.
Following the scheme, the apprentices will earn an NVQ2 in Performing Engineering Operations, an NVQ3 in the chosen trade pathway and a Technical Certificate.
Des Thurlby, human resources director for JLR, said: ‘Jaguar Land Rover is committed to the training and development of a world-class workforce, and the Advanced Apprenticeship programme is another important step in ensuring a future generation of engineering talent to drive the business forward.’
Once the initial training phase is complete, the apprentices will start work at JLR sites in Castle Bromwich, Gaydon, Halewood, Solihull or Whitley, continuing studies on a day-to-day basis, with the option of undertaking a City & Guilds, HNC, or foundation degree, depending on business requirements.
According to JLR, it is currently investing £800m to develop technology that will reduce CO2 emissions from its vehicles.
The company said that the apprenticeships are part of its strategic plan to employ forward-thinking people who will help develop these technologies.
