With the UK’s growing manufacturing sector outstripping expectations are we finally on the road to a rebalanced economy?
Optimism seems to be breaking out among readers of The Engineer. A clear majority of respondents to our poll, 54 per cent, said that the growth in the manufacturing sector showed that the government’s industrial strategy was paying off. A smaller but still significant proportion, 21 per cent, thought it was still too early to tell whether the optick in growth figures represented a robust recovery, while a similar proportion, 20 per cent, thought that with other sectors still growing faster than manufacturing, the economy is still out of balance. Only 5 per cent took the most pessimistic line, that the current growth is unsustainable.
