Last week's poll: technology and terrorism

In light of the Paris attacks, new measures have been announced to help combat the threat of terrorism in the UK. These include a doubling of the cybercrime budget by 2020, and more research into screening technology. Which of the statements below do you most agree with in relation to technology’s role in the fight against terrorism?

  • Technology has a vital role to play, in particular with regard to border screening and cybersecurity.
  • Technology has a limited role to play in this fight, and terrorism can only be defeated with troops on the ground in the Middle East.
  • Technology is a double-edged sword that can help facilitate terrorism, particularly with modern communications and social media.
  • Technology cannot prevent attacks like those in Paris, where soft targets are attacked by terrorists seeking to maximise casualties.
  • None of the above.
