Last week’s poll: wearable computing

The CES Show is currently underway in Las Vegas, with wearable computing concepts at the forefront of many presentations. What’s your view on this developing market?

The flurry of wearable computing concepts that have followed on from the Google Glass augmented reality system are an inevitable development of the ubiquitous computing trend that started with smartphones, according to the majority of the 371 respondents to last week’s survey. Just over 55 per cent chose that option, but a little under 20 per cent expressed a concern that it took monitoring technologies into worrying areas for personal privacy. Some 16 per cent said that it would be distracting and pose safety problems, while 9 per cent agreed that its primary market would be in professional engineering and similar areas, rather than as a mass-market product.
