Linking weapons

Boeing has chosen Harris to provide its weapon data link technology for the Small Diameter Bomb (SDB) Increment II precision-guided weapon.

The SDB weapon enables users to attack moving targets in all weather conditions. Harris will provide a data link that would enable the weapon to receive target location updates during flight and feed back information such as weapon status and bomb impact assessment.

SDB Increment II is a planned upgrade of the SDB I GBU-39 weapon, which has been used in Iraq and Afghanistan since October 2006. The weapon uses an anti-jam GPS electronics module that prevents unintentional and intentional interference of the SDB’s satellite guidance receivers.

Harris’s data link combines Type 1 encrypted Falcon III radios with a small tactical terminal produced by ViaSat.
