Local Generation begins build of food-waste power plant

Green energy company Local Generation has started building its first Anaerobic Digestion (AD) plant in March, Cambridgeshire.

The plant will transform 30,000 tonnes of both packaged and unpackaged food waste each year into clean, green energy and will be fully operational later in 2011.

According to the chairman of the Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Association, independent studies have shown that AD is the best treatment for food waste as it reduces landfill and greenhouse gases, generates renewable energy and preserves resources.

Local Generation will be posting regular updates in the news section of its website in order to keep the local community updated with progress on the plant and is looking to establish new relationships with waste providers who would like to use an alternative solution to landfill.
