Locks, bridges and a few tunnels

Imtech, a Holland-based technical services provider, has been awarded a €24m order to improve safety in all tunnels, bridges and locks in Zuid-Holland and Zeeland regions.

The order is part of the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management’s (Rijkswaterstaat) KOSMOS programme, which comprises several large-scale maintenance projects on the Dutch primary infrastructure.

Besix, Mourik and Vogel are contractors that will support Imtech’s work on infrastructure such as the Botlek, Benelux and Thomassen tunnels. Imtech will be responsible for the replacement, upgrade, expansion or maintenance of all technical systems, including CCTV, intercom, evacuation and radio signalling, as well as technical modifications to emergency exits, ventilation, air extraction, drainage and water pumps.

Work on all the route sections is scheduled for completion in October 2008.
