Staff from Loughborough University’s Department of Chemical Engineering have been presented with the Hutchison Medal for 2007 by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE).

Prof Geoff Hankinson and Dr Barbara Lowesmith from Loughborough, Dr Mike Acton of Advantica, and visiting industrial professor Geoff Chamberlain from Shell Global Solutions were recognised for their research published in IChemE’s journal ‘Process Safety and Environmental Protection’. The paper was entitled: ‘An overview of the nature of hydrocarbon jet fire hazards in the oil and gas industry and a simplified approach to assessing the hazards’.

The Hutchison Medal is awarded for practical and wide-ranging philosophical or thought-provoking published papers in the field of chemical engineering.

Prof Richard Wakeman, head of the department of chemical engineering said: ‘The team thoroughly deserve this medal. It is recognition of their hard work and expertise in this area.’
