Low-floor trams

Bombardier Transportation announced yesterday that it has received a $45 million order from two transportation companies in the Rhein-Neckar region of Germany for 16 low-floor trams.

Bombardier Transportation has received orders worth $45 million (34 million Euros) from MVV OEG and MVV Verkehr, two transportation companies that operate in the Rhein-Neckar region, for 16 low-floor trams.

This contract is an option to a former order placed by four transportation operators in the Rhein-Neckar region in 1999, for a total of 36 trams. Ten of the new trams will be in service for MVV OEG and six of the vehicles will be operated by MVV Verkehr.

Delivery of the vehicles is scheduled to take place between September 2006 and May 2007. The contract includes another option for a further nine vehicles.

The 30 and 42 metre-long trams will be manufactured at Bombardier’s Bautzen plant in Germany, the site in Mannheim will supply the electrical equipment and Bombardier’s Siegen facility will produce the bogies.
