Toshibatoday announced plans to jointly develop advanced system large-scale integrated circuit (LSI) technology.
The agreement will see the companies develop 45-nanometre system LSIs that can be used in LCDs, cellular phones, digital cameras, DVD players and automobiles.
In February 2004, Sony and Toshiba announced they would be collaborating in the development of 45-nanometre system LSI process technology, while last November NEC Electronics and Toshiba announced they had agreed to jointly develop 45-nanometre process technology.
Currently, most advanced chips are made on 90nm production lines, though Intel has produced technology that works down to 65nm.
