Magazine contract for General Dynamics

Meggitt Defence Systems has awarded General Dynamics’ Armament and Technical Products division a $14m contract for ammunition magazine system development and demonstration work.

Under the new contract, for the US Army’s Future Combat Systems, General Dynamics will design and develop a reliable lightweight ammunition magazine. This is designed to be compatible with existing and future ammunition for the Mounted Combat System, a variant of the FCS manned ground vehicle family.

General Dynamics will produce the magazine’s ammunition storage tubes at its Lincoln, Nebraska, facility, with system integration occurring at its Burlington, Vermont, Technology Centre.

The Mounted Combat System is one of eight manned vehicles being developed for the Army’s Future Combat Systems program. The MCS is designed to be highly manoeuvrable, delivering rapid, precision fire on multiple targets and providing direct support to infantry in assaults, defeating bunkers and breaching walls.
