MECAR awarded $28.4 million Army contract

The Belgian defence unit of Allied Defense Group, Inc has been awarded $28.4 million to provide tank ammunition and engineering services for the US Army’s Stryker MGS 105mm guns.

MECAR, the Belgian defence unit of Allied Defense Group, Inc has been awarded $28.4 million to provide tank ammunition and engineering services for the US Army. MECAR will partner L3 Communications’ BT Fuze Products division to fulfil the contract.

The BT Fuze/MECAR Team will supply the US Army with Tactical and Training bunker buster rounds for the Stryker MGS 105mm guns, as well as engineering services during the Safety Certification Tests the Army will conduct prior to fielding the ammunition.

The contract represents the first US order for Allied and its subsidiary MECAR. MECAR has generally sold 105mm and 90mm tank and 120mm-mortar ammunition in the Middle East, South America and Europe, including via foreign military sales contracts.

The Stryker MGS vehicle is designed to provide direct fire support for infantry. The 105mm Tactical bunker buster rounds are required to be able to defeat a standard infantry bunker and create an opening in a double reinforced concrete wall for infantry to pass through.

General (Ret) J. H. Binford Peay, III, The Allied Defense Group’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, ‘We are very pleased about MECAR’s success in winning this contract with L-3 Communications, after a great deal of time and effort. MECAR has a very talented and innovative design and engineering team, whose abilities in tandem with L-3’s team should contribute materially to the U.S. Army’s transformation initiative.’
