Metal distributors’ challenge

One of the UK’s largest multi-metal distributors challenged a group of art students to choose a theme (Relationships, Quality or Service) from which to produce a portfolio of six pictures. The winner was Wilma Smith, a student in fine art photography at the Glasgow School of Art; her photographs depicted `relationships’. Aalco gave the students access to its large distribution warehouse in Cambuslang where more than £2million worth of metals, including the likes of aluminium, stainless steel, copper, brass and bronze, are stocked. Smith said, `We have all appreciated this opportunity to develop another sector of our portfolios. The type of images we have been able to detect within the various metals are very exciting and have opened up new areas of awareness in our development.’
