Metric Systems awarded $13.2 million contract

Northrop Grumman Ship Systems has awarded Metric Systems a $13.2 million contract to provide LHD 8 shipboard load centres and distribution switchboards.

Metric Systems, a subsidiary of Integrated Defense Technologies Inc, has been awarded a $13.2 million contract for LHD 8 shipboard load centres and distribution switchboards by Northrop Grumman Ship Systems.

Under the contract, Metric Systems will provide development, production, and integrated logistics support of the low voltage electrical power load centres and distribution switchboards for use on the LHD 8 Amphibious Assault Ship currently under development by Northrop Grumman Ship Systems.

This equipment is used to distribute low voltage electrical power to shipboard systems and maintain high reliability operation under combat conditions. The contract has a period of performance of 18 months.

The LHD 8 is the latest generation ship in a series of Wasp (LHD 1) Class Amphibious Assault ships. The LHD 8 is a multipurpose amphibious assault ship whose primary mission is command and control for amphibious operations and to employ elements of a landing force through a combination of helicopters, landing craft or amphibious vehicles.
