Microsoft beats third-quarter revenue record

Software company Microsoft has announced record third-quarter revenue of $14.5bn for the quarter ended 31 March 2010, a six per cent increase from the same period last year.

Operating income, net income and diluted earnings per share for the quarter were $5.17bn, $4.01bn and $0.45 per share, which represented increases of 17, 35 and 36 per cent, respectively, when compared with the prior year period.

The results include the deferral of $305m of revenue, relating to the Microsoft Office 2010 Technology Guarantee programme.

Adjusting for this deferral, third-quarter revenue totalled $14.8bn, an increase of eight per cent over the prior year period.
