Mission in Tangier

The Moroccan government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Renault Nissan Alliance for the creation of a new industrial complex in the Tangier region of North Morocco.

The complex will be designed to have a manufacturing capacity of 400,000 vehicles a year, with an initial planned capacity of 200,000 from 2010.

Under the MoU, Morocco and the Renault Nissan Alliance have agreed to carry out a feasibility study for the construction of an industrial complex on a 300 hectare site on the Mediterranean port of Tangier.

A number of investments are planned for the complex, including $600m for the manufacturing capacity, with an initial contribution of $350m, and $200 to $400m to be invested according to the variety of vehicles produced. Ninety per cent of the vehicles would be exported.

The plant will be managed by Renault, and the project is expected to create 6,000 direct jobs and 30,000 indirect jobs.
