EADS Defence and Security will be supplying the Royal Thai Air Force with its mobile field hospital system for the treatment of injured people in remote areas.
The TransHospital rescue station consists of two large tents, a rescue container, a connection module, a water and power supply container and a transport container.
According to EADS, the system has the capacity to treat five in-patients and can be made fully operational by six people within a period of four hours. It can subsequently provide autonomous operation for 72 hours without requiring further support.
The stations can be transported by truck, train or vessel and the system to be delivered to Thailand will additionally be capable of being transported to the operational area using C130 aircraft. All of the modules are air-conditioned to deal with temperatures ranging from -32°C to 55°C.
Bernd Wenzler, chief executive of Defence Electronics at EADS, said: ‘The capability of providing protection and medical treatment on high-quality levels is becoming more and more important, not only on the battlefield, but also in disaster areas or during national emergencies.’
EADS’ mobile hospital field system has already been used in a number of disaster relief missions. In 2005, it was deployed as a rescue station in the US Gulf Coast in the wake of the hurricanes of Katrina and Rita to support the relief operations.
Delivery of the system to the Royal Thai Air Force is scheduled for spring 2010.
