Monash-Warwick project on optical wireless wins ARC grant

A project focusing on transmitting data through light being carried out by Monash and Warwick universities has been awarded a $410,000 (£267,000) Discovery Grant by the Australian Research Council.

The grant has been awarded to fund research into optical wireless. The Monash-Warwick collaboration aims to develop short-range communications systems with virtually unlimited bandwidth that combine the speed of optical communications with the convenience of wireless.

Applications range from rapid data download to portable devices such as smartphones, communications within very high-speed computers or within cars or aircraft.
