MORRIS SECURES NEW CONTRACT TO HELP KEEP BOMBARDIER ‘ON TRACK’

The Maintenance Services Division of leading lifting services provider, Morris Material Handling, has kick-started 2007 in style having secured a further three year extension to the preventative maintenance and inspection contract that the company enjoys with world leading rail transportation provider, Bombardier.
Under the terms of the new three-year contract, Morris Material Handling will continue to provide round-the-clock service and maintenance provision of Bombardier’s crane, hoist and lifting equipment at its rail manufacturing facility and refurbishment centre in Derby. Morris Material Handling will also continue to ensure that Bombardier meets its commitments under LOLER98 regulations under the inspection agreement, across the 330,00 sq m site.

And whilst the contract extension has been issued based on the high levels of support service that Morris has made available to Bombardier over recent years, of equal importance has been the effectiveness of Morris Material Handling’s ‘AIMS’, Asset Inspection Management System. Currently being rolled out across all industry sectors, AIMS is a managed and database driven service developed in-house by Morris that serves to help customers radically reduce risk associated with potential load failures. Using the latest in palm-top technology, AIMS not only accurately identifies all lifting equipment across all site premises, it identifies and reports on potentially problematic or defective items, thereby providing complete peace of mind for the customer.

As Bombardier’s Services Engineer, Graham Moody comments: “The AIMS system that Morris has developed has proved to be very effective in helping us to significantly increase the efficiency and operating safety of our entire suite of lifting and materials handling equipment across our Derby site. This has largely been driven by the speed with which potentially problematic items can be identified prior to essential repair and maintenance work being carried out.”

He added: “We continue to enjoy an excellent working relationship with Morris Material Handling. They are a very efficient and reliable service provider who continue to provide us with exceptionally high levels of round-the-clock service support.”

Coordinated from Morris Material Handling’s regional service centre in Loughborough, the preventative maintenance and inspection contract involves an annual inspection, biannual inspection and the planned maintenance of an asset database that takes in 55 on-site cranes. It covers both overhead and goliath cranes, as well as other lifting equipment, hoist chain blocks, Genie lifts, carriage lifting jacks, swing jibs, and all associated loose lifting and all below-the-hook equipment.

And whilst Morris Material Handling has a planned maintenance regime in place with Bombardier at its rail manufacturing and refurbishment centre in Derby, a team of nine technicians based at the Loughborough service centre remain on standby to provide immediate response should breakdown or failure of electrical or mechanical componentry occur.

Commenting on behalf of Morris Material Handling, Graham Dames, UK Sales Manager maintenance services said: “We are understandably delighted to have been given the opportunity to strengthen our association with such a leading global player in the field of rail transportation.”
