MTL Instruments buys OTS

MTL Instruments has spent £3m to snap up Surrey-based specialist equipment provider Ocean Technical Systems

MTL Instruments has spent £3m to snap up Ocean Technical Systems, a Surrey-based specialist equipment provider to the oil and gas industry.

Luton-based MTL will add OTS’s products to its existing portfolio of hazardous area control and instrumentation systems.

OTS specialises in SCADA (Supervisory, Control and Data Acquisition) systems that automate the berthing, loading and unloading of oil tankers and production vessels and the monitoring of oil and gas pipelines.

MTL said the company’s expertise complemented its own focus on control and instrumentation equipment for hazardous and potentially flammable environments.

OTS will also benefit from access to MTL’s international sales channels and the potential use of its new parent group’s circuit board manufacturing capability.

The OTS acquisition is the latest of a number of major deals by MTL. Earlier in July the group spent almost £4m on a 90 per cent stake in RTK, a specialist in process alarm equipment, display and interfaces.

Earlier this year MTL splashed out £12m on Elpro, an Australian developer of wireless systems for the process and manufacturing sectors.
