An on-line Directory of IEE Members offering their services as consultants has been launched by the Institution of Electrical Engineers. The Directory has been created to provide a comprehensive database of consultants working in all areas of engineering.
Anyone requiring a consultant can search the IEE database using search criteria such as technical and management expertise, skills, industry, geographical regions as well as a consultant’s availability to work.
If a perfect match isn’t found, an automatic notification facility will send an email when a consultant matching specified criteria joins the Directory.
The service has been developed by the IEE in response to the needs of over 8000 of its Members who now work as self-employed consultants or in small consultancies.
‘Changes in working practice mean that more and more professional engineers now work independently and need some kind of support structure that enables direct communication with both potential clients as well as fellow consultants’, said Peter Allatt MIEE, Chairman of IEE Consultants Group.
‘The on-line directory will provide an invaluable service to both consultants wanting to promote their services and people searching for a consultant to meet their specific needs. It will also enable consultants to team up with each other for contracts’, he added.
It is hoped the online nature of the service means that records can be kept constantly updated and consultants will also be able to upload their logos, audio and video clips onto the site.
The IEE stipulate that anyone wishing to promote his or her consultancy using the service must be a Chartered Member of the IEE working independently or in a small consultancy.
Each entry in the Directory carries an annual registration fee of £50 (plus VAT) and early registrants will be entitled to free advertising until the end of 2000.
