Peacocks wins NHS business

Orthotics manufacturer Peacocks Medical Group has won NHS contracts worth around £1m per year.

Newcastle-upon-Tyne headquartered orthotics manufacturer Peacocks Medical Group has won contracts with four separate NHS Hospital Trusts worth an estimated total of £1m per year.

Clients for the contracts include University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, Airedale NHS Trust, Taunton and Somerset NHS trust and Dorset PCT. Peacocks will establish regional centres to determine orthotic requirements and build bespoke devices as required. The company has already set up similar arrangements in Edinburgh, the East Coast and Borders region of Scotland.

To support the new contracts, Peacocks will employ 10 more people at its manufacturing base in BenfieldBusinessPark. Plans are also underway to further expand the existing factory, adding an extra 929m2 to support the growing workforce and increased business.

The contracts were won with the help of Cels Healthcare Network, part of the north east based Centre of Excellence for Life Sciences. Cels is sponsored by RDA One NorthEast and receives funding from the European Regional Development Fund.
