Helen McHugh has joined ebm-Ziehl as business development manager. The Sheffield Hallam materials science graduate will provide technical support to the Chelmsford-based drives, fans, motors and controls supplier. She previously worked at Phillips Components in Southport where she was product engineering manager.
Rod Powell is to become divisional chief executive of Invensys’ controls division. Powell joined the group in 1998 and was formerly president of Invensys Metering Systems, where he led the division’s diversification into services and e-commerce.
In addition, the firm’s industrial drive systems division has appointed Rick Armbrust as divisional chief executive. Armbrust, who joined the group in 1996, was formerly president of the intelligent building systems division. He succeeds Jim Swenson, who is retiring.
Jonathan Watkiss has been appointed as managing director of Digitron, the UK automated logistics contractor division of the Swisslog group. Watkiss has a background in management consultancy and has also worked as a manufacturing systems engineer with Rover Group. He replaces Klas Apelgren, who has been promoted to a senior position in Sweden.
Schlegel UK has appointed Ian Macleod as managing director. He has 16 years’ experience with the firm, and was formerly its sales director. Macleod’s background is in mechanical engineering, and he is also a lieutenant colonel in the Territorial Army.
Renewable energy company Energy Power Resources has appointed David McDonald as group finance director. McDonald, aged 33, joins the company from Scottish & Energy Plant, where he spent five years with the project finance team. McDonald began his career at Ferranti Industrial Electronics.
Stuart Hogg has become managing director of Walter GB, the Redditch-based subsidiary of the German tool and cutter grinding machines firm. He takes over from Bob Young, who has retired.
Former prime minister John Major, Conservative MP for Huntingdon, has joined the board of Mayflower Corporation as a non-executive director.
Mayflower designs, engineers and makes automotive bodies and manufactures its own line of buses. The group’s Vehicle Systems arm has appointed Mike Brown as engineering director. Brown, previously general manager for engineering, will lead a team dedicated to developing engineering projects and IT systems to create an integrated engineering and manufacturing service.
