The new working pattern, to be introduced next month for one year, is intended to respond to ramp-up in production volumes and fluctuations in demand.
The team will be comprised of 850 employees, including 600 current plant employees. An additional 450 people will be hired on fixed-term or temporary contracts.
According to PSA Peugeot Citroën, the deployment of the new work organisation at Rennes follows the signing by five unions on 8 September of a nationwide agreement regarding the flexibility of the group’s production facilities in France.
‘The two production shifts currently in place will not be enough to ensure the launch of the new Peugeot 508, which is scheduled for roll-out in February,’ said Denis Martin, head of the Industrial Operations Department. ‘With this launch, we are enhancing the competitiveness of the Rennes facility, where business will increase by around 60 per cent in 2011.’
