The United States Navy’s SPAWAR Space and Naval Warfare Systems Centre has awarded Polexis, an information technology company that creates dynamic enterprise application integration (EAI) solutions for businesses and government agencies, a $22.5 million contract to provide research and development services.
Under the terms of the contract, Polexis will provide engineering services and products that will advance the Navy’s command, control, communications, computer, and intelligence (C4I) software applications, databases, and database management systems.
‘This contract is a significant award for Polexis,’ said Polexis President Carlos Persichetti. ‘These C4I applications, databases, and systems are key components in the Navy’s tactical decision-making capability.
They enable the Navy to gather and store massive amounts of information used to identify and show the location of surface vessels and aircraft around the world. Using this information, the Navy is then able to make informed decisions about what actions should be taken in any situation and to communicate the information to the appropriate individuals.’
Persichetti explained that the patent-pending Extensible Information Systems (XIS(TM)) technology developed by Polexis will be at the heart of the services and products supplied to SPAWAR.
‘When the Navy receives data from satellite reports or other information sources,’ said Persichetti, ‘the information is then displayed in a number of ways. It can be plotted on maps, tracking grids, spreadsheets, or charts, for example — all with the goal of viewing, or visualising, the data in ways that make it easier to identify relationships or spot trends in the data. Polexis’ XIS technology allows Navy personnel to pull together information from disparate sources into a consolidated information model so they can view and manipulate the data without being hampered.’
