Polish oil upgrade

Fluor has been awarded a €200m contract to provide engineering, procurement and construction management services to upgrade Poland’s second-largest oil refinery, located in Gdansk.

Gliwice and Haarlem, Fluor’s Polish and Dutch divisions, will carry out the work, which includes building utilities and off-sites for the Grupa LOTOS Comprehensive Technical Upgrade Program.

‘This project enables Grupa LOTOS to comply with the EU requirements concerning the quality of diesel oils, which will be in force as of 2009,’ said David Seaton, Fluor Energy & Chemicals group president.

Under the contract, Fluor will provide services for a new tank farm, interconnections, a liquified petroleum gas washing unit, the high voltage power distribution system, infrastructure, water systems and other outside battery limits units.

The aim of the project is to increase the capacity of the refinery by 75 per cent, to 10.5m tonnes of crude oil per year.

Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2008 and finish in February 2010.
