Mott MacDonald

has been awarded a contract by

The Barbados Light & Power Company

to design and manage a new 60 MW power station development.

The new $100 million plant, to be located on a greenfield site on the north side of Barbados, will be based on either slow-speed reciprocating engine or combined cycle gas turbine technology.

It is being designed in line with the Barbados Government's plans to introduce natural gas via a new submarine pipeline or barge from Trinidad and Tobago. The main fuel to be used will be either natural gas or heavy fuel oil.

Mott MacDonald has been commissioned to help the client prepare design briefs, specifications and tender documents, manage the procurement process, procure the construction contract, review contractor's designs and supervise construction on site.

Construction is expected to begin in late 2006 with completion scheduled for October 2008.
