Qinetiq has completed a £10.5 million weapons systems upgrade programme on the Philippine Navy’s three Jacinto Class Patrol Vessels.
“We were delighted to be selected by the Philippine Navy as the prime contractor,” said Ian Prescott, Qinetiq’s Managing Director Sea Division. “This gave us the opportunity to demonstrate our capabilities in managing the integration of complex systems using the skills we have developed in support of the MOD.”
The three vessels were recently handed over to Admiral Mateo M Mayuga (Flag Officer in Command Philippine Navy), when senior staff of the Philippine Navy were also able to see first hand the work undertaken to achieve a fully functional weapons system.
The Jacinto Class patrol vessels are central to the Philippines’ national security and counter terrorism activities. They patrol a vast stretch of coastline, stretching from the Luzon Strait at the very Northern tip of the islands near Taiwan, down to the island of Mindanao in the Celebes Sea, waters which experience large volumes of traffic from neighbouring Malaysia, Indonesia and beyond.
