Question of eye comfort

Swiss manufacturer Optrel has been making welding masks since 1987, and has now introduced one which combines its accumulated know-how with a genuine concern for ergonomics and user-comfort.

The optrel solarmatic comfort (OSC) welding mask is powered by solar cells, and uses a self-darkening liquid crystal lens (LCD) to protect the eyes against ultraviolet and infrared rays. When the electric arc is struck the viewer shade automatically darkens and remains in this state throughout the welding process.

A potentiometer knob makes fine adjustments to the mask darkness according to the welder’s personal taste and the switching time from light to dark can be adjusted by an off-delay knob on the inside of the shade cartridge.
