Raynesway Construction, Balfour Beatty’s Paisley-based civil engineering business, has been awarded a contract worth £1.3m to complete the Anderston Footbridge in Glasgow.
The project, which will be carried out on behalf of Glasgow City Council, is expected to be completed in February 2013.
Anderston Footbridge, which crosses the M8, was built to allow pedestrians and cyclists to cross the motorway. However, it was never completed and has been dubbed the ‘bridge to nowhere’.
The contract involves the refurbishment of the existing structure and design and construction of new spans to tie the structure into the local pedestrian and cycleway network. The new structure will be constructed in reinforced concrete to match the existing bridgework.
