The US Navy has awarded Raytheon a $36 million contract for low rate initial production of the Tactical Tomahawk missile system.
The contract calls for the production and delivery of 25 Tactical Tomahawk All-Up Round missiles.
Operators of the Tactical Tomahawk are able to reprogram the missile while in-flight to strike any of 15 pre-programmed alternate targets or redirect the missile to any Global Positioning System (GPS) target co-ordinates.
It is also capable of loitering over a target area for some hours, and with its on-board TV camera, allows commanders to assess battle damage of the target, and, if necessary redirect the missile to any other target.
Deliveries are scheduled for 2004.
