Raytheon has been awarded a five-year, $75 million contract to support more than 300 of its satellite communication (SATCOM) systems for the US Navy.
Raytheon will have responsibility for maintaining and upgrading the SATCOM terminals and keeping them in service throughout their life. The contract covers support services including maintaining and upgrading software and hardware components, providing technology upgrades as needed and delivering field service support.
Raytheon said the US Navy chose to extend the service life of many of these systems, some of which are more than 20 years old, because of their performance and reliability.
"As it transitions to the Navy Multi-band Terminal, our customer is continuing to support and expand Raytheon's existing Navy SATCOM solutions," said Jerry Powlen, vice president, Integrated Communications Systems at Raytheon. "We designed and manufactured these systems and have the domain knowledge to ensure they perform well into the next decade."
