Raytheon to provide radar support

Raytheon has been awarded a contract with a potential value of $29m to provide sustainment support for the Upgraded Early Warning Radar and the Cobra Dane Upgrade.

Boeing Integrated Defence Systems, the prime contractor for the Ground Based Midcourse Defence segment of the US Missile Defence Agency’s Ballistic Missile Defence System, made the award.

Under the contract, Raytheon Integrated Defence Systems (IDS) will continue to provide engineering services to support the Upgraded Early Warning Radars at Beale Air Force Base, California, and Fylingdales, UK, and the Cobra Dane radar at Shemya, Alaska.

Work will be performed at the company's Missile Defence Centre in Woburn, Massachusetts. The award includes a basic period valued at $10m and an option phase valued at $19m.

The programme upgrades the existing Raytheon-developed PAVE PAWS and Ballistic Missile Early Warning Systems by adding missile defence capabilities while retaining missile warning and space surveillance missions. Upgraded Early Warning Radars provide midcourse target detection and tracking for Ground Based Midcourse Defence.
