Forfar-based agricultural, industrial gas and offshore handling engineer Ritchie has opened its new plant extension in Suttieside, bringing greater capacity, lower costs and five new jobs.
The site currently employs 150 people, including a joint venture galvanizing plant, which is the widest in Scotland, and brought £12m into the Angus region last year. The extension moves all operations onto one site and will use lean production techniques, removing waste resulting from processes and plant layouts.
The company has also installed a new computer system which gives it more current and detailed information with shop floor data collection and integrated time and attendance recording. This will be enhanced with MRP (Manufacturing Resource Planning), forecasting and CRM (Customer Relationship Management).
Charlie Stewart, director of growing business at Scottish Enterprise in Tayside, said: ‘We’ve worked closely with Ritchie to help them develop their business and supported the company with the extension. They really are one of the success stories in the manufacturing sector in our area and have worked to develop new products, innovative ways of working and break into new markets to consolidate a positive future.’
