A rocket-propelled bicycle has outrun a Ferrari 430 Scuderia to set a world record speed of 333km/h.
François Gissy rode to the record on a hydrogen peroxide rocket bike designed by Arnold Neracher.
The bike, dubbed Kamikaze 5, took less than seven seconds to travel a quarter of a mile at the Circuit Paul Ricard circuit in France.
In 2015 Gissy will attempt to break his record on a new bicycle named Spine Crusher.
C’mon, it’s gotta have a parachute!
Rocket bike? It’s still got pedals & chain!
I wonder if Guy Martin will try to beat that in his next series!
In the spirit of the old record breakers I would have thought Francois would have just turned his flat ‘at round thuther way !
I cycle faster on my way home from work….
It’s a rocket with two wheels attached.
Next: Snail with rocket attached breaks world record of fastest snail.
How do they keep the tyres on?
I bet his little legs were a complete blur pedalling at that speed.
Bonkers and we love it, proper job!!!
Well done an unbelievable achievement!!!
Didn’t realise that they were that P***d off at not winning the Tour de France since ’85.
Should be OK next year………………
I have a 750cc naked bike (without a fairing) and at 100mph it is an effort to hang on to the bars. How did this guy ride the thing at 200mph?
He has some serious nerve!
I’m not sure if the stem project for schools on this should be about how to achieve this or what the forces on you will do if it goes wrong.
On one level this is absolutely heroic and on another so utterly bonkers that the true nature is only revealed by a forensic inspection of the video
This reveals my Gissy rides this remarkable device like a skydiver trying to set a freefall record i.e lying flat on the saddle with his legs flailing around behind him (presumably steering aerodynamically) held on only by his grip on the handlebars and the tenuous support of the hump in the saddle.
Somewhat remeniscent of early motorcycle record attempts in the US (only faster).
Heartfelt Congratulations to you and the team Mr Gissy you absolutely heroic raging nutball.
