Industrial automation groups Omron and Rockwell Automation are to collaborate on a series of new products, particularly in open architecture technologies.
The aim is to increase the use of open architectures such as DeviceNet, ControlNet and EtherNet IP in the Far East, Omron’s strongest market. In the long-term, the companies hope it will increase interoperability between their systems across the world.
Michael Juniper, UK marketing manager for Omron, said: `It’s like the battle over video formats. We want to ensure DeviceNet is like VHS and our rival Profibus is like Betamax.’
But he said the two companies would remain separate entities: `The deal is not a merger by the back door.’
