Rolls-Royce wins anchor-handling systems contract

Power systems company Rolls-Royce has been awarded a contract by STX OSV Trading to supply technologically advanced anchor-handling systems, including a unique rope tensioner system that enables the safe transfer and storage of rope that connects anchors thousands of metres below sea level.

The equipment will be installed on three vessels operated by offshore services company Norskan, for use in deep water oil and gas fields off the coast of Brazil.

Valued at more than £50m, the contract also includes the supply of Rolls-Royce specialist winches, which are designed for the manoeuvre and installation of torpedo anchors that are used to keep oil platforms in position.

Delivery of equipment, to the STX OSV Niteroi shipyard, will begin in 2012.
