Rollstar Offers Reel Labelling Advantage to Smaller Operators

The latest labelling machine to be launched by Kosme is their Rollstar roll-feed hot melt machine. This has been specifically developed for low to medium sized labelling operations, with an attractive price, designed to enable smaller operators to compete against larger service providers having access to high-speed, roll-fed labelling machines.

Label quality, with the capacity for incorporating ever more information, is a staple requirement for companies looking for strategic merchandising and placement of their products. Roll-fed labels, printed in colour on plastic combine quality presentation with low cost. The high-tech Kosme Rollstar machine provides the right combination of precision cutting and efficient label application to achieve the necessary high level of visual presentation for a wide selection of product containers.

The Rollstar is designed for the application of single OPP wrap-around body labels from the roll on to metal, glass and plastic, including PET, cylindrical containers. This is accommodated at throughput speeds up to 18,000 CPH for containers ranging from 50 to 125mm diameter and 150 to 380mm in height. The labels can range in size from 145 to 400mm length by 30 to 150mm in height. Label reel sizes from 150mm minimum diameter to 600mm maximum outer diameter can be accommodated.

Technological development and innovation is a major feature of the equipment. All machine controls and relevant status/signal lights are centralised on to a single operator control panel, with either manual or automatic adjustments achieved via a touch-screen.

Automatic operation is supervised by PLC, with inverter drives and conveyor mounted sensors providing the main electric motor control for continuous or automatic production speed variations. A removable pushbutton station is supplied to facilitate easy machine adjustments or changeover operations in jog-run mode. The automatic or continuous flow and temperature monitoring of hot-melt units is under dedicated processor control with programmable on/off timer.

Gear transmission components and materials have been selected for both noise and vibration reduction, with stainless steel and wear-proof plastics specified for conveyor systems which also feature both height and width adjustments. Corrosion-proof materials including non-ferrous alloys and corrosion prevention treatments are used extensively, to ensure both minimum maintenance or lubrication of components. Good accessibility is provided for cleaning and tool changing with maximum operator convenience and safety, together with minimum machine downtime and maximum performance.
